Quantum turbo 2×2 battery pack re celling – refurbishing

June 28th,2020

My old Quantum turbo 2×2 battery pack now has dead batteries. I looked up the net and found a few neat ways I could possibly re cell and use my Turbo 2×2.

This video helped me get started.

On my Turbo 2×2 the disassemble went like this

  1. Removed the 4 screws on the side of the pack
  2. Slid the top off
  3. Removed the Battery connector
  4. Removed the cardboard packing
  5. Battery pack cells exposed These look like Sanyo HR 4/5SCU 1.2v 2100mAh NiMH cells. link > http://store.batteriesamerica.com/sanyohr-45scu2100mahni-mhhigh-output45sub-cflat-topcell.aspx . Sanyo is now FDK . There are others like Tenergy and Panasonic.
  6. Battery heat shrink wrap is glued to the case. I tapped the open side hard on a kitchen counter and the batt pack slid out
  7. Batt pack measurements 93.0 mm (L) x 70.0mm (W) x 33.5mm (H) . The 12 x 1.2 Volts battery pack make for 14.4V. You can replace these with the newer 1900mAH Eneloop industrial batteries (Cell Type BK-3MCCF). I am not sure if I could use the regular AA, 2500mAH Eneloop Pro. I think I should be able to, as long as I can spot weld them into a battery pack.
  8. Note: Only Positive (Red + White) and Negative (Black + Green) connected. (White wire broke free on the cell pack side when I pulled it to take a look ? ) Seems so, need to x check !
  9. Now to find replacement cells, wire and put it back. I will try to make it user replaceable. Perhaps make a box and slide it inside. Lets see.
